We have so much to share with you that it will take us a week or so to update our website but in the meantime please email or call us for further details.
Faro Sailing School is a fully recognised RYA Training Centre offering a full range of RYA/MCA practical and shorebased sailing and motor courses and holidays all year round. From beginner to expert, Faro Sailing School offers all levels of coaching for sailing and motor.
The school is run by the Principal and Chief Instructor, Peter Lightfoot. Faro Sailing School is a long established RYA sailing school in the Portuguese Algarve/Spanish Costa de la Luz area, now in its eighteenth year of operation.
Peter is a fully qualified RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean, Yachtmaster Instructor, Yachtmaster and Cruising Instructor Trainer and an Examiner. There is not much that Peter doesn´t know about boats having been sailing and involved with boats all of his life.
It´s as if he were born with a mainsheet in one hand and a tiller in the other.
One of our students once said of Peter "It´s as if he were born with the mainsheet in one hand and the tiller in the other".
By the age of twelve, Peter was a competitive dinghy sailor and at the age of twenty-one became a professional Skipper of large sailing yachts, and has gained a wealth of experience sailing in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean including several transatlantic passages between the two.
For the last 23 years, Peter has been teaching RYA sailing courses on a full-time basis.
Lorie runs the office. Originally with a corporate background in IT, she is also a fully qualified RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean and teaches shorebased courses. A former Cruising Instructor with over 10,000 miles under her belt, Lorie has now hung up her sailing boots temporarily to raise a family.
Lorie is responsible for administration and will be more than happy to book your course or charter, assist with arranging any shorebased accommodation you may need and help you with any queries you might have. All you need to arrange yourself is your flights (click here for flight links) and travel insurance.
The school is based in the marina of Ayamonte, Spain, just a 40 minute drive from Faro airport in Portugal and situated right on the Portuguese/Spanish border on the bank of the stunningly beautiful river Guadiana. The marina is right in the heart of Ayamonte and so enjoys ample facilities including showers, restaurants, shops, banks and free car parking.
Our unique location, on the border between two very different countries provides a perfect base from which to explore the many lovely anchorages, estuaries and marinas along the Portuguese and Spanish coastlines.
Why choose us?
