Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased

Yachtmaster Theory

This course is an advanced study of navigation, seamanship and meteorology. It deals with the more complex elements of safety, calculating tidal heights, secondary port tidal predictions, making offshore passages, pilotage and preparation for heavy weather.

It is highly recommended that this course is completed before attempting Coastal Skipper practical or either of the Yachtmaster practical exams.

Assessment for the course is in the form of three exam papers. Upon successful completion, the RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Shorebased certificate will be issued.

Low Season (November to March) £575.00 GBP per person
High Season (April to October) £575.00 GBP per person
Course Details
Duration 6 days - Monday 10:00 to Saturday 17:00
Suggested minimum pre-course experience: Day Skipper Shorebased course
Assumed Knowledge: Navigation to Day Skipper Shorebased standard

What´s not included:
  • Shorebased accommodation from Sunday to Saturday morning
  • Breton plotter and dividers - you can use the school's equipment or purchase your own from us if you prefer
  • Symbols and Abbreviations used on Admiralty charts book - one is made available during the theory course or you can purchase from us or via the Books page
  • Lunch and refreshments
